Jack ran for the position of Mayor because he believed he could make a difference in the lives of others. He had served on council for many years and was able to see the needs of the people through those experiences. In addition, he has always had a great interest in politics and the law. In fact, at one time he was pursuing a career in law and hoped to become a lawyer. Unfortunately, the government home-course he was taking required him to attend school in another state for two years. This is something he felt he couldn't pursue while caring for his family. So he continued to work at the Vandergrift foundry and to involve himself in the community as much as possible.
Jack is currently serving his second term as Mayor and hopes to run for another term. He thinks that he can continue to be of service to the people of Vandergrift. Jack enjoys his work and takes the responsibility of his job very seriously. He goes to the office every day from nine in the morning to noon and takes phone calls at home throughout the rest of the day. He is always accessible and willing to help out anyone in need.
One of the reasons Jack feels he has been so successful is because of the wonderful council that Vandergrift has. He said that they do a great job monitoring spending and holding down the taxes. Besides his investment through the community as mayor, Jack has been a part of the Vandergrift #1 Fire Department for many years. He currently holds the position there of President.
Vandergrift has also been a wonderful place for Jack and his wife, Rosemarie, to raise their four children. Jack Jr. is an art teacher with the Kiski Area School District, Kimberly is a secretary at the Leechburg Area School District, Randy is a paid fireman in South Carolina, and Dorina is a housewife. He is very proud of how his children have turned out.
Jack hopes to be a contributing part of his community for many years. He will continue to strive towards doing the best job that he can and looking out for the interests of the people of Vandergrift. Jack and Rosemarie attend St. Gertrude Church in Vandergrift.
