Thomas Sabol
As the previous President and recently named Chairman of the Board of the Tri City Jaycees Thomas Sabol has a history of dedicated, selfless community service. The tri cities encompass New Kensington, Arnold, and Lower Burrell. The Jaycees is a Junior Chamber Commerce dedicated to the growth and development of and service to the community. It's made up of about 21 young adults ages 21-39 who are committed to leadership development and community service.

They recently built and installed a ramp for a disabled woman who could never leave her house because she couldn't get down stairs in her wheelchair. These are the types of service projects they do and the projects are fully funded through the group. Throughout the year they do several fundraisers in order to support the services they provide. Their biggest fundraiser each year is a haunted house that they sell tickets to. Mr. Sabol has very creative and innovative ideas and this year he's trying to start a new fundraising event based on the "Tough Man" competitions on TV.

On December 14, 2002, the Jaycees held a Christmas party for underprivileged kids in Arnold. They got the names of approximately 50 kids from the local Salvation Army and bought gifts for all of them to open at the party.

Another service project he's involved in through the Jaycees is called "Kissed by a Star." They want to sell cards on eBayŽ that have been kissed by a celebrity. The proceeds will benefit various AIDS programs.

They hold four statewide meetings every year; sometimes it's just a fun get-together, and other times they plan future events and projects. They are always looking for new members.

Mr. Sabol recently joined the New Kensington Rotary, so he will be donating even more time to community service. Aside from community service, Tom has been recognized for risking his own safety while keeping the well being of his town in mind. In 1996 he stopped a man who was robbing McDonald's in New Kensington. He chased the suspect down into the woods and brought him back to the police.

Through the years, Tom Sabol has held a wide range of career positions, including bouncer, security guard, and software engineer. He also worked for the US Air Force with bombs and missiles. Thomas Sabol lives with his wife and daughter in New Kensington.
