Katrina Greco
Gently brushing the loose soil from the delicate piece of clay pot, archeologist Katrina Greco makes yet another outstanding find. This last piece is just part of the jigsaw puzzle of the life once lived. The intrigue of the pyramids, Pompeii, of unearthing pieces of history that lay buried for hundreds of years – these are the things that draw many into the field of archeology.

As a senior at St. Joseph High School, Katrina has investigated her college opportunities and decided to attend either Mercy Hearst or St. Vincent's majoring in archeology. Her goal is to obtain a position as an archeologist in a museum. Katrina has loved history since about 6th grade, and archeology is a way that she can explore this interest in a hands-on manner.

Besides her fascination with history, Katrina is also quite gifted in science. She has competed in the Pennsylvania Jr. Academy of Science since 7th grade, winning first place at the Regional level and going to States for the past five years. Her project this year is Amphacillian resistance in E-coli. Katrina chose her topic after reviewing projects from prior years and talking with her dad who is a biology teacher. Katrina has also showed off her scientific abilities at the Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair for almost three years. She takes the same project there and presents it in the form of display boards. Her project is then examined and judged.

School and volunteer activities are a large part of Katrina's life. This year she was one of the members of the new school bowling team. She is also a member of the Interact Club, which does fundraising and outreach projects, involved in drama, and a member of the Student Ambassador Program. Students in this program visit elementary and middle schools in the area and do speeches about their school in addition to providing school tours. Another of her endeavors involves participation in a group called Shaping Tomorrows Adults For The Future. This leadership building training involves a one-week summer workshop as well as a yearly retreat.

And her activities don't stop there! Katrina helps out with the school masses, campus ministry, and works with the Tri-City Life Center. She has participated in diaper drives and helped them move to their new location as well. She also attends Mt. St. Peters Church in New Kensington with her parents and brother where she is an Alter Server and Cantor.
