Janice Demharter
She loves to work with people and be very involved in her community. Janice Demharter of Brackenridge Heights is great example of this. She is an area native, being born and raised in Brackenridge Heights and a graduate of Har-Brack High School. She later moved on and received her degree from Robert Morris College.

She has also been committed to her job of 35 years for a local bank. At the National Bank of the Commonwealth, she has held various positions in the company throughout the years. One of her favorite things about her job is, she enjoys being able to help her customers find solutions for their financial needs. It is exciting to help young people with buying their first car or home. Since she has been there for so many years, she is now serving her customers next generation.

In 2003, Janice was awarded the “Golden Tower Award” from the National Bank of the Commonwealth. She received the award for excellence in community involvement. Part of her award was selecting which charity a bank sponsored monetary donation was to go to. Janice said this was a very difficult decision to make because she is involved and working with so many charities.

Currently, Janice is a member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW). This is a national woman’s club that helps promote women. She had the honor of receiving an award from BPW in 2003 for her community involvement. At the BPW, she had the opportunity to serve as president for two years and had served on the board for the district level for two years. Now she is the finance chairman. She is also currently on the board for Habitat for Humanity.

Other community involvement includes, the March of Dimes Walk 2003, helping on the finance committee for the Relay for Life and serving on the board of the Allegheny Valley Chamber of Commerce and other committees there. She has also served on the board Junior Achievement and for the H.O.P.E. Center (that deals with domestic violence) and committees for Meals On Wheels. Out of all these things, Janice has a very busy life and has even been involved at her church, St. Barnabas in Brackenridge.

A special thing that Janice enjoys doing is a yearly event for second grade elementary students called “Community Reading Day”. This is in the spring when every second grade class in the state has someone come in and read to them. This goes on in every class in the state with someone from the community coming in to each individual classroom. She finds it interesting and enjoyable to be able to speak to the children after reading them a story. They get to ask Janice about her job and she gets to speak to them about the bank, savings accounts and saving for college. This event is sponsored the by Chamber.

Janice looks forward continuing at her job to eventually retiring from there down the road when it is time. Spending time with family and friends is a treasure to her.
