Plum's Interior Remodeled

The mustangs at Plum Senior High School have been enjoying their fantastic sports stadium for a little over five years. But not until last spring did they get to breathe an exuberant sigh of relief that all the inside remodeling was finished. Now, students, teachers, and parents couldn't be more thrilled with the dream come true campus their school has become. The 47 million-dollar remodeling project included brand new additions as well as renovations of the existing building.

For the students, two of the most exciting additions to the school are the new auditorium and new gymnasium. The auditorium is an amazing sight. With seating for 1500, the entire student body can attend an assembly at one time! Moreover, the state-of-the-art acoustics and sound capabilities make it one of the best facilities in western Pennsylvania. The gymnasium is equally impressive. Almost triple in size compared to the previous gym, the new one seats a whopping 2200! To accommodate extra physical education classes there is also an auxiliary gym and new locker rooms. For an indoor workout, students now have top-of-the-line treadmills, stationary bicycles, and a multitude of weight-lifting machines in the sizeable new weight room.

Two other remarkable updates, the new library and computer labs, provide cutting edge technology for the students. The library is triple the size of the old library and has plenty of computers to do research. In addition, there is a new lounge area providing students a place to relax for casual learning. The library also contains its own computer lab. Along with the library lab, each department has its own computer lab, and there are two others as well. With all the computer labs, Plum now provides three math courses that are completely computer-based courses.

Moving through the tour of new facilities one also finds a three-story math/science wing, new band and music rooms, and a complete tech education wing. These were designed to accommodate the growing population of students and include all the necessary technology updates. In addition, the students now have a renovated television studio which enables them to produce live broadcasts of community events as well as their own school events and daily announcements.

A final outstanding improvement provided for the mustangs in their updated campus brings the greatest buzz of excitement - the food court. According to Dawn Check, Information Officer at Plum, "Cafeteria is no longer in our vocabulary." Instead, students enjoy booths and benches which create a relaxed, amiable atmosphere for dining. They also revel in the opportunity of a vast selection of food as they proceed through various areas of the food court.
