"There's been no whimpering, no whining. They've really had a really, really great attitude. It really amazes me to see the commitment from them, even the younger girls. They have the proper attitude to play as a team…it's all in the attitude, when you come out of the locker room, are you ready to play?"
Their mind-set stands out in how the young ladies on his team face the challenge of the "crackerbox," the lovingly called description of their smaller-than-regulation-size practice gym. According to the first year varsity coach, who previously coached basketball for other grades at the school, the challenge comes when the Lady Chargers have to run a bigger floor at their home games, held at Penn State New Ken.
"Early in the season until they get their legs under them, it’s a challenge between trying to keep your breath and play a good game," says Davis. "The girls have done well making the adjustment."
Lady Charger fans at home games give a boost to the girls fine-tuning their play. "We do get a lot of support from the school," the coach notes. "Surprisingly enough, even as a small school renting out a big gym, we do get a nice crowd out to the games." It makes things special for the Lady Charger program.
