Kiski Area High School has reached into its own deep reserve of coaching talent for their new head football coach. The Cavaliers' existing ninth grade football coach and award winning assistant Wrestling Coach, Chris Heater, is taking over the helm of the Cav Football program. I would like to applaud the Kiski Area school board and athletic department for their choice of Coach Heater. Choosing a head football coach for any western Pennsylvania high school is always an emotional journey. We love our high school football in this part of the country and we want winners. Sometimes, unfortunately, we set our goals to win over the need for these programs to first be extra-curricular character building sources for young men. When a coach is hired to produce winners at the expense of the character of high school boys the program is doomed to failure. A head coach must be a man, or woman, of high character and moral integrity; both to ensure a source of character-example to our children and facilitate a winning program through the disciplines that come from these qualities in a program's leader. Coach Chris Heater is just such a man. He not only brings extensive football knowledge to the table but more importantly a track record of excellence in using athletics to teach young men about life. His rapport with the young men who he has worked with in wrestling and football is refreshing. His obvious passion for building upon what is already an great football program, I'm sure, will do honor to those who have placed their confidence in him with this appointment as well as those who have gone before him. Congratulations to Coach Chris Heater from all of your fans throughout the Alle-Kiski Valley. Don't miss the Alle-Kiski Today exclusive video interview with Chris Heater as he talks about his new position as Head Coach of the WPIAL AAAA Kiski Area Cavalier Football Team.
