Two years ago the First Baptist Church of Apollo had less than a handful of people attending and although they didn’t want to really think about it, closing the church was a real possibility. Today the church has a new pastor, numbers approximately 70 people, and is growing and they believe it will continue to grow. Quite a change for a congregation that believed it had seen its last days!

Scott Fairman became the new pastor two years ago. The congregation and Pastor Scott are looking to the future and with new growth are beginning new programs. The church started a monthly Saturday evening Gospel Concert throughout the year. The concerts have a different group in each month and there is always dessert and beverages after. Several times during the year a covered dish dinner is held prior to the concerts that usually start at 6:30 or 7 p.m. Announcements appear in area publications or you can call the church at 724-478-1904 for a yearly schedule.

The Sunday morning Worship service at 11 a.m. offers a mix of music with praise, worship and hymns. The contemporary music was introduced when more young people began to attend. The church videotapes each Sunday service for shut ins. In addition to the Sunday service, the church also holds a Bible Study/Prayer Time on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. More young families are joining the church and there are a number of children now in the congregation. Catch the full story about the new programs and how Pastor Scott ended up as pastor in the online video at http://www.allekiskitoday.com/webcasts/1453
