Pastor Kevin Morgan
This past May First Baptist Church of Leechburg made note of its 130th anniversary. Pastor Harry Jordan, a former pastor of 24 years and now retired, was invited to speak. He had many memories to share having been the longest serving pastor in the church’s history.

When you look at the church today at 111 Siberian Avenue, at the corner of Third Street, the building looks relatively new. The fresh look doesn’t tell you it is nearly forty years old. Built after the original 1800’s church was no longer usable, it also tells you about a faithful congregation that passionately believes in giving its Christian testimony.

Today, Kevin Robert Morgan is in his third year of pastoring First Baptist Church of Leechburg. He is familiar with this area having grown up in New Kensington and graduating from Valley High School. He then attended Bob Jones University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Engineering. He is also within a few credits of his Master’s degree in theology from Bob Jones.

While in college he met and married Vicki Sue. After college they had other plans about his career and staying in the South. There were many choices before them, one about coming back and working in his dad’s business. One day he got a telephone call from his mother concerning First Baptist Church of Leechburg. “They are looking for a youth minister,” she said. Pastor Morgan didn’t think that really fit his call. A short time later another call came from his mother and she said they were now looking for an Assistant minister. With that he returned and accepted the call in 2002. The pastor’s position became vacant and he then accepted the call to lead First Baptist.

Pastor Morgan characterizes the congregation as a caring, compassionate and builder of relationships. He said, “There is a strong desire to reach the community with the Christian message”. The church has several outreach programs, mostly to children and youth. Each week a Bible Club is held on Tuesdays right after school. It has grown and relationships are being built. They also hold seasonal Party Clubs, a Child Evangelism program to reach children during particular holiday periods. These meet on Saturdays.

A church youth group meets every Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. In addition to study and recreation they also participate in reaching the community by delivering invitations to people and households at particular times.

The women of the church have a fellowship called JOY (Jesus, Others and Yourself). They focus on prayer and caring for supporting missionaries. The men have a bible study at 10:30 a.m. every Saturday. The backbone of the church is prayer and there is a prayer chain where people are called to pray for particular issues. The women meet Thursday for organized prayer and prayer is part of the Wednesday meetings.

First Baptist Church of Leechburg invites you to come and visit. They hold Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m. Sunday evenings the youth meet at 5:30 p.m. and church is at 6:30 p.m. The Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer Time is at 7:00 p.m. You may reach the church at 724-842-3051 or in the web at:
