This is a recipe that everyone will enjoy. It is easy to fix and only takes a few ingredients to bring an eye appealing as well as taste tantalizing dish to the table. I fixed it recently for my family, with the intentions of having leftovers for the next day, and everything was eaten right away. So much for leftovers. Your family will enjoy it also. \

Menu tonight:

  • Fancy Italian Casserole
  • Tossed Salad
  • Ice Cream

Fancy Italian Casserole

  • 1 package hot Italian Sausage Links (6-8 links)
  • 3 lbs ground beef
  • 16 oz penne pasta, cooked
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1 large green pepper, chopped
  • 26 oz jar favorite spaghetti sauce (I used 16 oz Roast pepper and garlic and 16 oz marinara)
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoons crushed red pepper
  • 3 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon basil
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup fresh shredded parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 10 oz frozen garlic bread, thawed and cut into 12 slices
  • 12 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

Fancy Italian Casserole
* ½ cup olive oil

  • 2-3 large tomatoes, sliced into 12 slices

Cook sausage links into olive oil until juices run clear. Remove from pan and set aside. When cool cut into thin slices. To the pan add ground beef, onions, green pepper and cook until meat is no longer pink. Drain if necessary. Meanwhile cook pasta according to directions and drain.

In large dutch oven pan combine the spaghetti sauces, garlic, red pepper, oregano, basil, wine sugar and water. Bring to a boil. Add sausage and ground beef mixture to the sauce. Toss gently. Pour mixture into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Place the twelve slices of garlic bread over top of the pasta mixture. Layer the tomatoes on top of the garlic bread. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Bake uncovered at 400 degrees for 40 minutes or until heated through. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Just add your favorite toss salad followed by a cooling dish of your favorite ice cream and you have a feast fit for a king.
