Pastor Lovie Scott
Pastor Lovie Scott has a story to tell. His story is about hope. He knows it well because there was a time he didn’t have any hope. His life had been on the streets and eventually in prison. Even though he had been raised in a good home, “I strayed,” he said. He grew up and attended school in Brackenridge and then went to Washington D.C. Even after five years in prison, he still didn’t completely straighten out his life. It would be another few years before he became a “changed man,” as he says.

After his life changed and he renewed his Christian commitment, he joined a church and dedicated himself to study and ministry. Eventually he and his wife returned to this area and joined a New Kensington Church. It was here he became a minister and heard a call to go to the streets. He later attended Greater Works ministry school in Monroeville.

He and his wife began a bible study in a house church that became the World Overcomers Ministry. It grew to the point they had to move to the Salvation Army. The growth continued and they began to look for another building. They found the Columbiana Club for sale in Arnold, but did not have the money to purchase it and could not get a mortgage. A short while later, attending a ministry conference on the west coast, he met a businessman who took an interest in his street ministry. He gave him the money to purchase the building and later added a significant amount to renovate it.

After purchasing the building, the former Harvest Baptist Church was put up for sale. They considered renting it, but ended up buying it and today it is World Overcomers Ministry church. That freed up the other building to be used for ministry programs. Pastor Scott says that teenagers and young adults in particular are the major focus of their efforts. “They are the most difficult group,” he says. He sees the former Columbiana building as a safe house to help teenagers and young adults focus on putting their lives back together. The ministry has been named APEX, “Always Pursue Excellence”, and will eventually be incorporated as a separate entity.

Another amazing event in the ministry is the fact that more than twelve other area churches have joined Pastor Lovie Scott and the World Overcomers Ministry in working together to make APEX a viable program to help others. Pastors and church members from these churches are working to complete the renovation and begin the program. It is an amazing step of area churches joining together for a common ministry goal.

World Overcomers Ministry Church
Pastor Scott says, “It is all about Christ,” and “seeking quality of life which starts with Christ”. In the eight years he and his wife have been ministering, they have seen many find hope and come off the streets. An Elder and a Deacon of the church both were street persons who found hope and today serve Christ and speak to others still in the street. The church’s Youth Ministers were both street people who found truth and love. They both speak “straight up” to the youth, Pastor Scott says.

Pastor Scott is passionate about reaching out to minister to those without hope. He firmly believes the church is capable of providing for it’s own and the fact that over 12 other churches have joined him in this effort is a demonstration that it can be done.

World Overcomers Ministry is a busy church. They have an active prison ministry, youth ministry called “Chill Spot” and a Family Movie Night.
