Andrea Skomo
Although the bright lights and activity of the big city can seem attractive, there is nothing like the charm of growing up in a small town. Andrea Skomo will soon be leaving the familiarity of her Leechburg neighborhood and will be trying on big city life at the University of Pittsburgh campus. Although this will be an exciting experience for her, 'there's no place like home'. After getting a pre-med degree, Andrea hopes to return to the area and to some day have her own small private practice.

Andrea always knew that she wanted to be a doctor and her love of children swayed her to the pediatric field. She knew that Pitt had a good medical program and when she went to the main campus to visit she knew that was where she wanted to be. The campus is huge and has a lot going on all the time. She is looking forward to meeting new people and being a part of campus life. She will be attending the college in August.

Being highly motivated and academically talented, Andrea graduated 8th out of fifty-five students. Some of her accomplishments during her senior days in high school include homecoming queen, a member of drama club, lead in the school play Guys and Dolls, layout editor of the school newspaper, yearbook staff, student council, SADD, NHS, intramural volleyball, chorus, band, basketball, and volleyball. Two of her school community service projects were helping out with the community Easter egg hunt and preparing boxes of toiletries and other items for kids in the shelter.

For the past three summers Andrea has had a babysitting job and watches three kids for five days a week. She was unable to work during the school year because of her busy schedule. Andrea also likes to bake and to work out in her spare time.

Andrea belongs to Christ the King Parish in Gilpin. Her parents are James and Virginia Skomo.
