Several individuals from Fox Chapel’s Track team, coached by Mark Krynicki, made strong showing at WPIALs and advanced to contend at the PIAA Individual State Championships. Though none medaled, all finished in the top 20 there, placing themselves among the cream of the crop of Pennsylvania runners. Think about it—among the fastest high schoolers in PA! And they earned the respect of their coach. “They are the nicest bunch of kids I've ever had a chance to work with,” says Krynicki.

Senior Mara Miller, daughter of Mary and Ralph Miller, placed second in the long jump at WPIALs. Though she did hurdles also, she says, “long jump has been my best event all through high school. It’s probably my favorite. It’s nice and short and you get to fly for a little bit. My jumping coach is Ted Fox (who still—since the ‘70s—owns all three jumping records from Fox Chapel.) Having him around has been a big help; he knows what he’s talking about.”

Others Fox athletes who earned a trip to States included senior Molly Linhart, who placed fourth at WPIALs in the 800m; and the boys’ 4x800m squad, who placed third at WPIALs. That squad was made up of seniors John Knauss, Ryan Duff, Kyle Hauber, and Alex Rowland.
