Josh Vick
“It all clicked finally,” Kiski Area’s Josh Vick says. It sure did. Vick not only pinned down a Gold Medal first-place finish at WPIALs, but the sophomore also nailed a first-place Gold Medal in the States!

“I was thinking I'd take sixth or fifth because that is what I was ranked. It’s really the only all-individual sport I’ve been involved in. I like the pressure you put on yourself. It’s all on you. You know people depend on you,” says Vick, who is also vying for the starting role of Varsity quarterback for Cavaliers football in a few weeks.

Garner McCloud
His performance capped some strong post-season performances by Kiski Area’s track program, who is coached by Tom Berzonsky and Bill Karaszia. In the Triple Jump, Garner McCloud, a junior, leapt to first place and a Gold Medal in WPIALs and sixth-place in the States. Sixth in Pennsylvania for McCloud and first for Vick—wow! Imagine being able to run and jump or hurl a javelin better than just about anyone your age in the State! That’s pretty good.

Some other Cavs who did pretty good included Leah Ulizio, a junior javelin-thrower who pegged a Silver Medal at WPIALs and tacked on a Bronze Third Place Medal at States; both the Lady Cavalier (April Maritz, Ashley Zalewski, Brittany Lange, Amber Wolfe) and the Cavalier 4x100m relays each raced to a fifth place WPIAL finish; senior Ryan Radebach took sixth at WPIALs in the 400m Dash; Sarah Cappo captured eighth in the WPIAL High Jumps; and the boys 4x400m relay also grabbed eighth in WPIALs.
