Starting their season with a 38-13 win over Virginia, Pitt faces Cincinnati, Michigan State, The Citadel Toledo and Syracuse over the next 5 weeks. Here's what they are up against, courtesy of the Pitt Athletic Department:

at Cincinnati (Sept. 8): Pitt opens Big East play at Cincinnati for first time since 1922… winner earns River City Rivalry Trophy...Bearcats’ second season as Big East members…Panthers defeated Cincinnati at Heinz Field last year, 38-20…Bearcats finished 4-7…Pitt leads all-time series, 5-0...game scheduled as ESPN2 national telecast.

Michigan State (Sept. 16 @ 12noon): Pitt meets Michigan State for 1rst time since 1960…MSU the first Big 10 team to play at Heinz Field…Panthers last played Big 10 foe in 2000 shutting out Penn State, 12-0, at Three Rivers…Michigan State leads all-time series vs. Pitt, 4-0-1…Pitt & Michigan State tied 7-7 last time...Panthers play Michigan State in 2007 at East Lansing.

The Citadel (Sept. 23): The Citadel plays a Division I-A team for 11th consecutive year…since the Division I-AA level was created in 1978, The Citadel played 42 games vs. I-A foes with a 7-35 mark in those contests…over last 10 years, the Bulldogs’ I-A opponents included Florida State, Auburn, Miami (Fla.), Florida, Louisiana State, Maryland, Clemson, Mississippi & Georgia Tech… 1rst meeting between Pitt and The Citadel...the Bulldogs went 4-7 last year.

Toledo (Sept. 30): Pitt and Toledo meet for 3rd time…last meeting in 2003, the Rockets defeated visiting Pitt, 35-31…Pitt won year before @ Heinz, 37-19...since 2000, Toledo ranks as one of winningest Division I-A programs... Rockets are 55-19 over the last six seasons, good for a .743 winning percentage that ranks 11th nationally during that time span… Rockets enter 2006 with a streak of 12 consecutive winning seasons…Toledo finished 9-3 last year, including a 45-13 triumph over UTEP in GMAC Bowl...Rockets were close to nation’s Top 25, finishing No. 26 in the AP poll and No. 29 in USA Today coaches’ poll…Pitt is 23-2 vs. Mid-American Conference, both losses on the road.

at Syracuse (Oct. 7): Pitt and Syracuse have met every year since 1955…the Orange hold a 30-28-3 advantage in series dating to 1916...Panthers have won 3 of last 4 meetings, including a 34-17 decision at Heinz last year…Pitt dropped a 38-31 decision in double overtime in 2004 visit to Syracuse…since 1971 (35 seasons), 15 games in series decided by touchdown or less...Syracuse finished 1-10 last year.
