Dave Heavner may be Burrell’s new head football coach, but he’s not new to Burrell or AK football nor new to winning. Fresh from a State championship at Franklin Regional as Defensive Coordinator, Heavner grew up in Arnold, coached at Valley, and served as a varsity scout for Burrell’s WPIAL Championship in ’95 under Coach Tom Henderson. “One thing Burrell has, is tradition. Burrell football players have three ingredients: 1) They’re very hard-working and give it their all. 2) They’re very smart individuals, many with 3.5 GPAs--or higher. And 3) they are very coachable. You tell a player to do something, they do it right first time.”
