Melanie, a dedicated athlete, participates on the school and traveling basketball teams as well as the school track team. As you know, each of these sports requires hard work, dedication and long hours on the practice field. Melanie plays wing and forward positions in basketball and has been on the team since third grade. Last year she joined the traveling team called Westmoreland Wolf Pack and hopes to make the team again this year. And still she finds the energy to work as a Physical Education Leader and leads stretches in gym class and assists the teacher.
And if this wasn't enough, Melanie is involved in the Kiski Area Junior High Art Club. Her interest in art was ignited and fueled by her late grandfather who was a professional artist. His talents lie in painting signs and landscapes. Her involvement in the club has afforded her opportunity to visit art museums and learn different art techniques in addition to exposing the artistic talents that she too possesses. Her latest project, a painted mask, was voted first place by other junior high students.
You guessed it…there's more! Melanie has also invested many hours into music and plays the trumpet in the school band. She is involved in student council where she holds the title of co-chair. One of their community service projects is making holiday and seasonal wreaths to donate to West Haven Nursing Home in Washington Township. She has also participated in other community service projects, which include raising money for the American Cancer Society and food banks as well as collecting clothes for the Salvation Army. Whew! I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
Melanie has shown incredible perseverance and enthusiasm in everything she attempts. Not only does she fill her days with more tasks than most of us could possibly imagine undertaking, she manages to do them all with excellence. Melanie lives in Bell Township with her parents Nancy and Ed.
