Jim not only helps his customers be at ease, he built a new studio in 2001 to create an environment that helps make better photos. With a 20 foot by 40 foot (and 11 foot high ceiling) indoor studio affording plenty of room to do many scenes and an outside photo park complete with pond, gazebo, shrubbery and other settings, you can be sure your photos are going to be striking. He is very proud of the studio. Converting a home, he engaged an architect to be sure everything was done right so that customers would be pleased. The studio is located at 819 Carl Avenue in New Kensington, near K-Mart.
Jim’s very first customer at the new studio was a dog! “My first job was a red hair miniature dachshund and the dog acted like a pro – he stood up for a great shoot, great photos,” Jim said. Another person brought in three of her dogs and dressed them in a variety of outfits for the photo shoots. Now, lest you think Jim’s business is going to the dogs, he assured me that high school seniors were probably the biggest part of his photography. He also does a number of weddings, family albums and portraits.
Another interesting side to Jim’s photography business is doing professional schools. Some years ago Citizen’s Nursing School had heard about Jim’s fair pricing and delivering on time. He became the school’s photographer and today he has eight nursing schools in western Pennsylvania as clients.

Although most persons coming for photos are nervous, Jim works to put them at ease by using light humor and taking the time to allow a person to adjust to the surroundings and get comfortable. Another thing he does is taking a break after shooting some photos to let them look at the digital shots to see if everything is o.k.
There’s no question that the outside photo park and indoor studio offer an environment that enhances the photos being taken. With hardwood floors, designer carpeting, an attractive setting on the inside studio and nothing short of a botanical garden outside, the variety of scenes that may be created offer interesting, vibrantly striking photos. He intends to continue developing the outdoor park side to further enhance his photography. Twenty years experience led Jim to building this great studio that brings a “wow” to people’s expression when they walk in.
Jim is a New Kensington native graduating from Valley High School. He traveled for a while and did a lot of photography to show his friends at home where he had been. The photography grew on him and soon he started shooting weddings. “Everybody like the work, the capturing of natural expressions,” he said. The rest is history. -You can visit Jim’s web site at www.jimkuhnphotography.com or call him at 724-339-4494 for more information.
