NASA Assist In Physics Club Project
Mission Control to shuttle one, do you read? Check system function and prepare to launch in three…two…one…blastoff! This isn't something you'd likely hear in your hometown, much less in one of our local schools. But, the Valley High School is going to be working with NASA to launch their very own rocket. It's all part of their Physics Club project that will be starting later in the year. The rocket launch will be a simulation that students do over the Internet with the help of NASA. Jeremy Astor, a senior, is one of the students involved with this.

The Physics Club meets like a study group and is open to anyone taking Physics 1 or Physics 2. They go over the new assignments in class and work on some very interesting projects. Jeremy said that he has made speakers out of electromagnets and paper and gone to Kennywood to analyze the rides. And, his excellent grades have made him first in his class.

Aside from his academic success, Jeremy is very active in school events and extracurricular activities. He is on the wrestling team, which takes up quite a bit of his time. He's been wrestling since middle school, and this is his third year wrestling varsity. He is also President of the NHS and on student council. Also, this past year he played John Brook in the school's production of "Little Women." His part was one of the smaller ones, but it was tricky at first to get the character down. In the end, though, Jeremy felt that he succeeded.

Besides wrestling, his church involvement is another big part of his life. Jeremy attends Evangel Heights Church of God with his parents Gary and Kathy and younger sister Julianne. He really enjoys being part of the church's youth group, which meets every Sunday night at the church. They participate in Bible studies, special events, and have opportunities to go on summer and winter retreats. Jeremy also plays the guitar in the Praise and Worship band on Sunday mornings. He said that he's been playing the guitar for about two years and does pretty well considering that he has learned almost everything on his own.

Jeremy is also involved in the Leo Club through the Lions organization, which deals in community service projects throughout the year. He is normally involved in two service projects a year. He has also done a lot of community service projects through Student Council. His friend is the president of Student Council, so Jeremy helped him over the summer completely redo the courtyard at the high school.

Plans for a college and a course of study are uncertain right now, but Jeremy does plan to attend. He is considering something in accounting or finance but said that it could all change by graduation.

Jeremy is a well-rounded young adult who seems to invest all his energy into everything in which he participates. With this enthusiasm for life and ability to excel, I'm sure Jeremy will attain the goals that he sets for the future.
