Lead Stories : Austins Bridge Connects
Think sipping cold iced-tea under the shade of a magnolia tree on a hot sweltering day at a dusty Mississippi crossroads, locusts humming as banjos and steel guitar in the background play along with a heavy bass-line. That’s what happens to me every time I hear the new CD by Austins Bridge—their bluegrass / jazz / country / soul / Rascal Flatts / contemporary Christian / “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” sound is a Rocky-Road blend of music that sweeps you up and takes you places. It appeals to younger country and rock fans, as well as older adults who like bluegrass and country. And now the Alle-Kiski area will have opportunity to be swept up and on-down this new country road as Austins Bridge brings their unique and fresh sound to Vandergrift’s historic Casino Theatre, this September 1st at 7pm.

Lead Stories : Home Schooled Sisters Excel as Gymnasts
Most think home schooled kids lack in sports by not attending a pubic school, but that’s not the case. Both girls, Ericka who is 13 and Aubree who is 10, are gymnasts and each was ranked National Champions, State Champions, and Keystone State Game Champions. That in itself speaks to their earnest pursuit of excellence in sports.
Lead Stories : Lewis and Clark and (Bern) Kubiak?
Bern Kubiak is crashing through the woods, lunging over logs and rocks. Sweat is pouring onto his terror-stricken face. The terror is there for good reason; claws and teeth—lots of ‘em—are breathing down his neck. An 800lb grizzly bear is right behind him. He and the other members of the Lewis and Clark expedition might not make it...
Alle-Kiski Churches : A Community Church – Faith United Methodist
One thing is sure: Faith UMC is a growing and vibrant community oriented church. It is buzzing with activity every day serving God and community. Reflecting the community, the congregation is made up of young and middle-age families that are very involved in many of the church programs. Pastor Wagner says, “They are very open, very caring and do their best to be a witness for Christ in the community”.
Lead Stories : Basketball, A Relative Matter
If Shayla Scott's mom, a registered nurse, were to examine a drop of her daughter's blood under a microscope, she would probably see tiny, orange basketballs floating around next to the red blood cells. It would make a lot of sense, for a reason that we’ll soon get to. You’ll like this story.
Lead Stories : Anything You Do, Always Be A Giant
Willie Thrower said it a lot: “Anything you do always be a giant.” Now a giant life-size replica represents this New Ken native whose giant steps led him to become the NFL’s first black quarterback.
Alle-Kiski Businesses : Knowledge and Experience Helps Both Home Owners and Buyers
Real Estate Agent Marietta L. Blowgeaux of Howard Hanna, Apollo, is passionate about her career. “This is my career and I take it very seriously,” she told me in our interview. It really began when she had to buy a home for herself and was a single woman. That experience took place over 20 years ago when it first became possible for single women to buy home. It also began a journey that brought her to Real Estate sales as a career. And, it also is one of the reasons why she is so successful with first time home buyers.
