Donna Robare of New Kensington firmly believes in making a difference. “I want to be able to help,” she said, and “I like to help people”. This belief has taken her out of her home and work and right into the life of the community. Our Local Heritage Intense Indianola Interest
At 14, Sue had no idea her interest in her family lineage would follow her all her life. She only had one thing in mind, and that was learning more about her grandmother's relatives. The inquisitiveness continued as she grew up, throughout her 35-year career as an elementary educator. But her curiosity also centers on the area around her. Sue offered to help someone write a history of Indianola and the Indianola coal mine. She dug up more than enough stories and history about the area, all based on the numerous interviews she'd had with miners' families.

Veterans of Freedom The shells were bouncing right off the monument
It was April 19, 1945 and Enrico D’Angelo of Islin was lobbying 105MM shells at this 275-foot monument in Leipzig, Germany. Named “Battle of the Nations” after Prussia, Austria and Russia’s victory over Napoleon in 1813, the shells were bouncing right off the monument, yet soon 300 German soldiers led by a SS Colonel emerged and surrendered. It was a good thing the shells did bounce of this massive monument because a large number of American prisoners were inside. But, Enrico’s story didn’t begin here; in fact this battle was when the war ended.
