With 24 years of teaching and coaching, five years as a principal, and five years in various administrative roles, Dr. John Kuntz comes to St. Gertrude Elementary School in Vandergrift with a wealth of experience. Having worked with Father Thaddeus several years ago, he made it a goal to come back to St. Gertrude sometime in the future. The school needed a principal, and Father Chad, the new pastor, was pleased to welcome John to the post. With vision, resolute determination, and a commitment to excellence, John is propelling the school forward to great heights of accomplishment.

Our Local Heritage A Homecoming At The Plum Harvest Festival
A section of Boyce Park in Plum Boro recently became a passageway back into the 1700s and 1800s. The Allegheny Foothills Historic Society surrounded a log cabin there with British Redcoats, Civil War soldiers and musicians, scarecrows, an Indian maiden, hog oilers, and even some people who actually—I'm not kidding here—grew up in that very log cabin.

Veterans of Freedom Amphibious Assaults in the Pacific
Vince Sedlacek is not a person to cry over spilt milk. He was drafted and made the decision to join the Navy. When the Navy found out he had experience with Gray Marine diesels, his wartime career was cast in stone. After his basic training at Great Lakes he was assigned to the USS Warren P. Biddle Amphibious/Attack Transports (APA-8). He became a Motor Machinist Mate (MOMM) Third Class and assigned to the repair and rebuilding of the Gray Marine diesels in the 25 to 30 Amphibious Landing Craft on the ship.

Alle-Kiski Churches First Baptist Church of Leechburg Continues 130 Year Testimony
This past May First Baptist Church of Leechburg made note of its 130th anniversary. Pastor Harry Jordan, a former pastor of 24 years and now retired, was invited to speak. He had many memories to share having been the longest serving pastor in the church’s history.
