The Appleby Manor Presbyterian Church is having their 13th Annual Model Train Display starting this weekend. Tom Prager was the original idea man behind starting this annual food drive. Doug Bartosh and Tom ran with the idea and it has been a success ever since.

The train display is open to the public. No one is turned away. Admission is any monetary donation in support of the church ministry, as well as canned food, which will be donated to the Ford City Food Bank. Over the last 13 years, Appleby Manor Presbyterian Church’s Annual Train display has gathered over eight tons of canned goods.

This model train event features operating displays of N, HO, 027, LGB gauge and Live Stream. There are usually 19 different layouts in the gym. Some large ones are on the floor and others fit on 30” tables.

"This is a great time for fellowship and we have gotten new members from this event. We love watching all the kids come in and see their eyes swell up," says Doug. Doug also mentioned that Thanksgiving Eve is their busiest night. Many people are home visiting and love to come to this annual event.

This has become such a popular event that other organizations have followed example. A church in North Carolina contacted them about their event, came up and visited. Appleby also sent them videos and diagrams. Now this North Carolina church is running and event as well. The Kittanning Business Association has also followed suit and uses this type of event in February to raise money for the town.
