City of Lower Burrell Building
The City of Lower Burrell and local churches have gotten together in recent years to promote unity in the community. On Friday, December 10, 2004, the Tenth Annual Christmas in Lower Burrell will be celebrated. Churches in Lower Burrell will be celebrating fellowship and unity each with their own public presentations.

An annual event "provides opportunity for people of Lower Burrell to be involved with the true spirit of the season," says Reverend Warren Jones of Bethel United Methodist Church. "It is a chance to get together with neighbors." All ages are welcome.

Stop in at one of the following local churches and celebrate differences. There are many exciting and creative programs to choose from. Programs are from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm

RENEW THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS IN YOUR HEART

Bethel United Methodist Church – 6:15 P.M. & 7:45 P.M.

“Let it Shine” Bethel’s youth group will put a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and make you laugh out lout with their unique Blacklight Ministry. A show you have to see to believe, its broad appeal is sure to fascinate both young and old. This is puppetry like you’ve never seen before! Some new numbers will be introduced along with the performance of some old favorites.

Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church – 7:30 P.M. & 8:30 P.M.

If you have ever felt that Christmas time can be a real hassle, you won’t want to miss this years Christmas in Lower Burrell on December 10th. You think you have problems! Come experience the way the real journey to Bethlehem might have taken place that very first eve of Christ’s birth. Do you think today would be a better time? Then imagine with us what might happen if the very first Christmas were happening in 2004. After all, just “How Tough Can Christmas Be?” Come witness the hilarious performance of youth and adults of Bethesda in their premier performance of "How Tough Can Christmas Be?"

Braeburn Methodist Church – 6:00 P.M.

Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth and an Angel discuss the dramatic events that are beginning to unfold. The choir will add songs of the Advent season. Refreshments downstairs after the 20 minutes program.

Church of God – 8:45 P.M.

Join us for an evening of "Candles and Carols". With special music, traditional carols and a candle lighting service, we will celebrate the birth of Jesus, the light of the world. We will remember that this is the beginning of his story and that the tiny, innocent baby is destined for the cross. Come remember and celebrate with us. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Grace Community Presbyterian Church – 6:30 P.M. & 8:15 P.M.

6:30 p.m. – The Youth Fellowship of Grace Church will be presenting "A Cricket County City Christmas" a one-act comedy for Christmas. The setting for this most recent installment of the popular Cricket County dramas is the big City. The conflict? The country cousins arrive at their City cousins’ mansion – on the same day as a high-society maven, who decides if the wealthy cousins will be accepted in to an exclusive society. The City cousins, feeling their chances are doomed, desperately give their backwoods relatives a crash course in etiquette and social graces. Side-splitting hilarity abounds as the sophisticated society snob meets the hillbilly cousins, who try – to act civilized. The surprise ending reveals everything about the country cousins’ character and their reason for celebrating Christmas.

8:15 p.m. – The Chancel Choir of Grace Church will present "Nativity Suites" a cantata for Christmas by Benjamin Harlan. Celebrate the joy of Christmas with Nativity Suites. Brimming with festive carols and lightly seasoned with beautiful new Christmas songs, this carol cantata captures the many colors of Christmas. From the hushed opening to the exuberant conclusion, Nativity Suites offers rich and well-crafted musical settings. The Chancel Choir has a long history of exceptional musical performances. Come and join with us the celebration of this joyous season.

Lower Burrell Baptist Church – 7:15 P.M.

Lower Burrell Baptist Church Youth Puppet Team will help you to discover the true meaning of Christmas. Experience the joy of learning how the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ transforms the world. Journey back in time as we discover the reason for the season. Move beyond gifts and parties and find hope and purpose for your life.

Puckety Presbyterian Church – 7:00 P.M. & 8:00 P.M.

Come hear the story of Amanda Reckonwith as she learns to understand why Jesus came at Christmas and why we should believe in Him with all of our hearts.

St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church – 9:00 P.M.

Who will show us the way to Bethlehem – "He shall judge the poor with justice and decide aright for the land’s afflicted." Isaiah 11:4. Join with the parish of St. Margaret Mary as we meet four biblical figures of Advent and, through storytelling and song, hear their message of hope. Journey with us to Bethlehem, that place where we find the living Christ. Reception in Sullivan Hall following the presentation.

Trinity United Christian Church – 6:45 P.M.

"Is it really Christmas" – This is a play given by the children and youth of Trinity United Christian Church about gifts, the special gifts God has for us, gifts that help us to understand why Christmas is so important. After this play you can ask – Is it really Christmas at my house?

Donations are being accepted in the form of non-perishable foot items. New or used gloves or socks will be collected.
