Allegheny Township, December 08, 2004

Copeland Road, Allegheny Township
On September 17, 2004, many roads and bridges in the area were washed out. Copeland Road in Allegheny Township (off Melwood Road) was completely washed out. Residents had to go out the only other exit to reach White Cloud Road. Copeland Road was mainly tar and chip and in poor shape so this bridge washing out made things more difficult for Copeland Road residents. Copeland Road had just recently been regraded and repaved. Crews are still putting in storm drains.

Allegheny Township is working with PENDOT and has received funding from the Transportation Improvement Plan. The township is getting 80 percent of the funds needed from PENDOT. The project will take three years to complete. The first year and a half will involve engineering. Studies of hydrology, of the environment, and right-of-way need to be done. When plans are complete, it will take a full construction season to build. The new bridge will be wider and will include two full lanes and two shoulders.
