Tuesday night the Cavaliers, ranked #2 and #4 in different polls faced off against their most formidable foe Connellsville. The Connellsville Falcons who were state runner-ups last year, came into the match number one in Western Pennsylvania.

The Falcons lead the Cavaliers the whole evening, but Kiski Area stayed within a few points and striking distance of Connellsville. The evening’s bout came down to the final three matches.

The first two matches, won by Zach Checetti and Mike Spisak pulled the Cavaliers within just one point of Connellsville. It left the entire evening’s match between the two schools in the hands of a freshman from Connellsville and a freshman from Kiski Area, Tony Clark. Clark who wrestled 119 pounds, is in his 10th year in wrestling and handled the match like a pro. When the dust had settled, Clark had pulled ahead 7 to 3 to push the Cavaliers over the top 28 to 26.

Cavalier fans went wild over the win as Connellsville fans stared in disbelief at the at the victory snatched right out of their hands.

Kiski and Connellsville traded victories several times. Both teams are always power houses and both teams we each a state runner-up in the past two years.

Kiski Area’s win over Penn Hills on Wednesday afternoon was marked by a new school record set by Cavaliers’ Jason Calorio who pin his apponent in 7 seconds. Calorio’s pin beats the old record held by his teammate Zach McKendree.
