Ricardo Colclough, Steeler cornerback for three years, injured his neck and will be unable to play the rest of the season. The Steelers put him on their Reserved/Injured list. The Steelers staff and Colclough, who had 13 tackles last year, are unaware when the neck injury occurred.
Coach Bill Cowher noted Friday, “He doesn't remember any specific situation. It was something he had been feeling for about a week. He reported it when he came back on Monday. He was out there on yesterday (Thursday.) We let him run around, but stay away from any contact. He continued to feel it so we went through extensive testing today..."
Rookies Santonio Holmes and Willie Reid will be returning punts against the Chargers Sunday night, as well as kickoff returns. Reid, though this is the first game he has been active in, will likely field most of the punt returns. It is a great opportunity for the third-round draft pick from Florida State.
"He is (excited), as he should be," said Cowher. "He has worked very hard. It's not easy for young players to come in and sometimes have to accept a lesser role than what they had in college. That's all part of the process. This is his opportunity and we'll go from there."
The Steelers activated 5’ 9” 180lb rookie cornerback Anthony Madison to their roster. Madison was on the Steelers practice squad the last three games. He practiced with the Steelers in training camp but was cut in the final preseason cuts and signed to the practice squad the next day.
A part of the 2005 first-in-the-nation Alabama scoring defense, Madison started 37 consecutive games in college and will wear the number 37 on his Steeler uniform.
