This event is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League – The national association for Amateur Radio at www.arrl.org http://www.arrl.org/contests/rules/2008/fd.html
Field day is the most popular event of the year with Radio Amateurs. Dating back to the very beginning of radio, Field Day has been an exercise and demonstration of emergency preparedness. Thousands of Amateur Radio operators will take to the airwaves to make as many contacts with other Hams as they can on the weekend on June 28th and 29th using temporary antennas and back-up power. Last year Skyview ranked second nationally in our category and we are shooting for first place this year! The public is welcome to visit and see all that Amateur Radio has to offer along with all the technology of today.
This year for the first time Skyview will be operating from two locations! The main location will be at our clubhouse in New Kensington, Upper Burrell Township. We will be using our clubhouse permanent antennas, but with back-up power. This will be our competitive station. The second station will be operated from Townsend Park in Murrysville using both temporary antennas AND back-up power, demonstrating our ability to operate under emergency conditions at any time. Both operations are very open to the public.
We look forward to meeting with you.
