National EMS Week is May 18-24, 2008 and during this time local EMS services are partnering with the PA Dept. of Health to increase the community’s awareness of who we are and what we do. Below are some facts and figures you may not be aware of relevant to emergency medical services in you area.

Your local EMS Agency is a valuable community resource just like fire and law enforcement? We continue to answer emergency 911 calls every day as well as providing medical coverage for school sports, Fire Company activities and large gatherings. We provide community CPR and first aid training.

In the calendar year 2007 in Pennsylvania:

• 1.8 Million Patients were assessed by EMS

• That's 205 every hour of every day

• That's equivalent to the entire population of the state evaluated every 7.7 years

• There are 51,000 current certified providers

• There are 999 ground and air ambulance agencies

• There are 503 recognized QRS agencies
