Natrona, November 22, 2002

Joanne Stoehr-Simon.
Like most Rotary's, the Natrona Rotary has an international project in Uganda, East Africa. They donate money and time into supporting the CEED (Christian East Africa and Equatorial Development Trust) project. This is a coffee plantation that has changed the lives of everyone involved. It has provided food, jobs and hope to many villagers in East Africa. The program in East Africa is led by Worth Helmes of Wexford who is the President of the organization. According to secretary Joanne Stoehr-Simon, he came to speak at the Rotary and brought a tape with him to show them exactly what they were doing. The plantation consists of 25 acres of coffee trees and banana trees for shading. They have also been planting crops like peas and beans. The local villagers receive all the revenue from the bean crops and 16 permanent jobs have been created. There are two managers that are paid and the harvesters are paid minimum wage as well.

As money comes in they are going to establish a health clinic. Whoever needs to visit the temporary clinic now has to pay a whopping 3 cents for treatment. In December Worth will be coming to show them a video of what has been going on. Although his last video wasn't professionally done, those who viewed it found it riveting. Members of the Rotary donated money and will continue to raise money for this worthy cause.
