Allegheny Township, November 29, 2001

The following are a few of the proposals from the last board meeting that gained approval.

1. Approved payment to the architect in the amount of $55,200 for work on the design development phase of the high school project. 2. Approved a request to take the Intermediate School Art Club to the Cleveland Museum on December 1, 2001, at no cost to the District. 3. Approved an additional technical director for the high school musical. 4. Approved an agreement with Intermediate Unit #7 for the 2001-2002 IDEA Flow-Thru Funds. This will give Kiski Area $229,260.35.

-The architect plans for the work on the school was explained briefly. Concerns were expressed about the lack of storage areas in the school. The new plans try to accommodate those concerns. They would also like to put in a softball/baseball diamond.

-During the visitors address to the board, one parent spoke on the behalf of the parents of 21 students in the Washington Twp. Elementary School. One of the third grade teachers had apparently taken leave for the year and there were concerns expressed for the students in that class. Apparently, as of Monday, the class will be getting its fifth teacher for the year. Some of the subs that they have had only stayed as long as three days. Parents feel that their children are or will be negatively affected by these constant changes.

-More arguments were brought in the Davis Field/New Stadium controversy. On speaker stated that he didn't think it was wise to put money into something that wasn't yours. He also felt that having a stadium at the school would be beneficial to students in many ways. He also felt that Kiski should be checking with a financial advisor before making any decisions. Another parent gave the board a list that her husband had written about why Kiski should have its own stadium.

-A concern was expressed about kids that have to go outside to change classes in the middle of winter without coats. The school board said that they would check into this and see what they could do.
