Avonmore, November 29, 2001

There were about 200 people at the grand opening on November 17th to show their support for the much needed ambulance service. A handful of people have worked diligently to see this day happen. After filing for grants, fundraising, and meeting with local representatives, they have realized their goal. The service has been reorganized and now has EMTs volunteering their time. I spoke briefly with Mechelle Sieczkowski, who has played a part in the reopening. She said that her husband is a diabetic and they have had to use the service a couple of times. Once, she recalled, her husband had gone into a diabetic seizure in the middle of the night. She said that the ambulance was there within a couple minutes of being called. In addition, they came in and cared for her husband without disturbing her sleeping children. She said that they are a wonderful group of people. "They don't care who you are…they take care of you and treat you like you personally matter to them."

Having the Avonmore Lifesavers as part of the community is something that has received much support. Guys Tavern, located in Avonmore, is donating their dance hall to be used for a DJ Dance. All proceeds will benefit the Avonmore Lifesavers. This will be held sometime in February.
