Students of Allegheny-Hyde Park Elementary School celebrated Veteran's Day in an assembly on November 9. One of the highlights of the assembly was when the Student Council President explained the meaning of the words in the "Star Spangled Banner." Others helped explain what the veterans do and what they have enabled the citizens of this country to do. Each of the veterans that attended were introduced and an explanation of where they served, how many years they served, medals received and description of the uniforms that were worn.

Westmoreland County Commissioner, Thomas Ceraso, also addressed the students briefly. He explained how veterans have given us freedom to elect the officials that we want. He also wanted to thank the veterans for making it possible for him to serve in the office that he now has.

Students stood and sang the Star Spangled Banner. Some joined the veterans in a salute as the anthem was played.
