Lower Burrell, December 03, 2002

The Lower Burrell City Hall.
The Lower Burrell recycling task force has two Christmas tree reclamation days in the month of January. This year they will be held on January 4th and January 11th. Residents from Lower Burrell can bring their trees to the City Hall Building to be mulched. This has proved to be a very popular program and the Burrell High School Environmental Club helps out with it as well by collecting trees. A tree and shrub limb recycling site is operational behind City Hall. It is pretty easy to find and directional signs are prominently displayed. The mulch from the trees and shrubs is free and available for pick-up by Lower Burrell residents. Wood chips are also available to the public use at no charge.

There is also a leaf composting site available behind City Hall for residents' use. The leaf compost pile is accessible Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Compost is available to the public at no charge.

The recycling task force also collects the following:

  • Glass - brown, green and clear glass food and beverage bottles and jars - rinse out glass and remove lids and metal or plastic rings
  • Plastic - #1 PETE and #2 HDPE
  • Cans (aluminum, bi-metal and steel) - rinse and remove food; cans need not be crushed
  • Newspaper - please place newsprint into a paper grocery bag or tie with twine Semi-annual recycling days for items not included in regular pick-up usually occur in the spring and fall. This includes items such as: tires, oil, anti-freeze, freon containing units, old appliances, scrap metal.
