The Allegheny Valley YMCA has just taken the initial steps in implementing their Long Range Five-Year Plan. They are currently remodeling all the offices in preparation for new staff that will be hired. In addition there will be new space added to the large facility.
The YMCA sits on seven acres and is quite impressive in its structure and the programs available. There is a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, weight room, spinning room, lockers and a ball field out back. They also offer special programs and events such as the YMCA Fitness Challenge, which will be held in May. It is an opportunity to challenge yourself in several areas of fitness including swimming and biking.
There is also a program available to pay for membership for low-income families. They usually start fundraising for this in January and finish up in March. This year's goal is $40,000.
Another exciting program they hope to be able to provide is senior fitness. The YMCA is hoping to get a grant for $25,000 to pay for this. If they receive the funds, senior citizens will be able to go to the YMCA and get fit for free.
To find out more, you can call the YMCA at 724-224-9500 or 724-295-9400. They are located at 5021 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights.
