Local News : Fight For Life 5K Run/Walk
Although the weather was brisk, many showed to participate in the Fight For Life 5K Run/Walk. This event took place on November 17th at 9am. Entrants registered in the Apollo Plaza at 8:30am and the race began at 9am. The starting line was in front of Scents & Accents.
Local News : The Avonmore Lifesavers Are Open For Business
There were about 200 people at the grand opening on November 17th to show their support for the much needed ambulance service. A handful of people have worked diligently to see this day happen
Local News : Armstrong County Chorus
The Armstrong County Choral Festival was held Thursday night November 15, 2001 at Apollo-Ridge High School. Students from Apollo-Ridge, Elderton, Ford City, Freeport, Kittanning, Leechburg, and West Shamokin schools gathered Wednesday and Thursday at Apollo-Ridge High School for practice before the concert Thursday night.
Local News : Allegheny-Hyde Park Elementary School Celebrates Veteran's Day
Students of Allegheny-Hyde Park Elementary School celebrated Veteran's Day in an assembly on November 9. One of the highlights of the assembly was when the Student Council President explained the meaning of the words in the "Star Spangled Banner."
Local News : Truck Spill Off Of Rte. 56 In Lower Burrell
Apparently the driver of the truck took a wrong turn and was trying to back up in a lot next to ACE Hardware in Lower Burrell. The sun blinded the driver and he ended up backing up over a hill.

As an alumnus of the Kiski Marching band, I had quite a unique perspective as I joined the band in Indianapolis, Indiana this past weekend for the 2001 Bands of America Grand National Championships.

There has been another full-time addition to Vandergrift's Police Department. Bob Kirkland, who has been working for the force part-time for the last four years, has recently become a full-time officer.

Local News : POWER OUTAGE AFFECTS VANDERGRIFT
On the morning of October 12, over 2431 Allegheny Power customers suddenly found themselves without electricity. The outage began at about 9:15am and lasted until 1pm.
