     “My Computer Is Acting Funny”
     http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/2570

Last year Pat Zaranek of Saltsburg, a retired neurology
specialist nurse, was getting ready to leave for Myrtle Beach
when her laptop started “acting funny”. Pat said she depended
on her laptop to continue getting her e-mail and follow the
news while away each winter. Needing a quick repair she took
her laptop to HighVision Computer Service Center where
Jonathan B. Myers, Service Manager, worked on her laptop. He
“really got our laptop in order,” Pat said. “He was really
     terrific,” she continued.

While there are many tabbed browsers floating around the
Internet for general consumption, Slim Browser is definitely
one of the better ones out there. They have recently released
a new version of this browser, and it has a number of new
features that are worth noting. For starters, users now have
the ability to display local weather conditions in their
status bar and they can also save memorized zoom levels for
web pages. First-time users will benefit from such existing
features as a built-in web form spell checker and a universal
URL filter. This version is compatible with all computers
     running Windows 98 and newer.

Turkey River Place: The Allegheny River takes its name from
the 'Allegewi', the name the Delaware and Shawnee supposedly
called the Mound Builder peoples. But according to one
historian, the Shawnee called the river something different,
the Pulawu-thepi-ki, meaning 'Turkey River Place'. We could
have very easily been calling Allegheny Township,
'Pulawuthepiki Township' instead… Read more interesting

Beginning September 1, 2005, free reports will be accessible
to all Americans, regardless of where they live. A recent
amendment to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requires
each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies to provide
you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request,
once every 12 months. The FCRA promotes the accuracy and
privacy of information in the files of the nation’s consumer
reporting companies. The Federal Trade Commission, the

     TODAY’S HISTORY WEB SITES

The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake & Fire
     http://digbig.com/4fymt

A coastal city leveled by a predictable natural disaster.
Public officials thrown into a tailspin. Residents desperately
clinging to survival. No, it's not New Orleans -- it's San
Francisco in 1906. As the 100th anniversary of that quake
nears, U.C. Berkeley's Bancroft Library has digitized photos,
movies, and other artifacts to present the story of this
disquietingly familiar tragedy. The night before the quake
struck, the famous tenor Enrico Caruso sang at the Grand Opera
House. The next morning, the new fire chief struggled to
quench raging fires. An interview with survivors recounts
damaged homes, escape attempts, and refugee camps. While
assistance poured in from around the world, local politicians
were accused of wasting the aid resources. An interactive map
leads to photos from different neighborhoods, and a panoramic
collage shows how the whole city was flattened by the
disaster. Let's hope this kind of historical evidence can help
us prepare better in the future. [Yahoo! Weekly Picks]

     Animal Vegetable Video
     http://www.anivegvideo.com/

What does a flock of sheep do when it's alone? In 1988, Sam
Easterson strapped a video camera to a sheep's head to find
out. (The answer: a lot of starting and stopping and checking
in with each other). Sam has since outfitted a wide range of
wild animals with his custom-designed "helmet-mounted"
cameras. And, with the sample footage available here, he
allows us to glimpse his astonishing work. A wolf snuffles
and digs in the undergrowth; a baby chick squeakily trails
another hatchling; a tarantula pads across the rocks. There's
a lot of nosing around: A wheezy pig pokes in the mud with
its wide snout; an alligator nudges through the swamp,
occasionally flaring its nostrils. We're even offered a
tumbleweed's point of view as it plunges onward. The videos
are choppy and brief, but they're unfettered by human
presence -- and that's enormously satisfying. [Yahoo! Weekly

     Miss Snark, the Literary Agent
     http://misssnark.blogspot.com/

So 2006 is the year you're going to finally write that novel.
Write on, Shakespeare. But once you finish, if you want to
see your masterpiece on the recommended shelf, you better get
yourself an agent. Not just any literary agent. Make it one
who swills gin from a pail, wears stiletto heels, and carries
an unhealthy obsession with George Clooney. Make it Miss
Snark. If she can't (or won't) be your agent, she'll at least
answer your questions about the quandaries of getting
     published. [Yahoo! Weekly Picks]
