INTERNET NEWS
People want free video, not pay
Not only was Google laying an egg at CES, but new research
from Points North Group shows that consumers by a 3 to 1
margin prefer to get free ad-supported video vs. paying a fee
for it (Google Video and iTunes are both pay). In a telephone
survey of 800 people, 62 percent said they'd rather get free
video downloads -- from the Net, cable or satellite -- with
advertising, while only 17 percent would pay $1.99 per
download, and 21 percent were undecided. In the 18-to-34
demographic, free came out with even more support, with 68
percent preferring that option vs. 26 percent who would pay.
Analysts gave conflicting accounts as to what this means to
Google and Apple and their nascent pay-per-view efforts.
Jupiter's David Card agreed with the findings and said 8
million videos sold via iTunes was not a success. But
Gartner's Mike McGuire felt the jury was still out on a video
business model for the future. "I'd say it's very early to be
making any definitive pronouncements regarding different
models," he told MediaPost. "There's a lot of experimenting
going on, and there's a lot more that will need to be done in
the future."

OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/archives/8
Resistance Is Futile: When Captain Jacob Vandergrift fought
alongside other leaders in the oil business, he and they
managed to turn the tables on the oil industry takeover
attack by John Rockefeller. They simply exposed his Standard
Oil Company scheme to control America's oil. They won the
attention of the media, Congress and the President of the
U.S.A. Rockefeller backed down. But less than 6 months later,
large numbers of those same oilmen Rockefeller tried to
takeover joined his company relatively peacefully. Why?
Stocks, money, power, Standard Oil's undercutting of oil
prices, and the influence of one man: Vandergrift. Today,
history is not clear why he joined forces with Rockefeller,
but because of his actions, Vandergrift the town exists
today. Read more interesting history at Our Local Heritage at
above site. Click on Archives for a list of history
tidbits.
