INTERNET NEWS
French Police jail IE; feel safer on Firefox
PARIS - Microsoft's Internet Explorer appears to be out of
favor at least with the state run agencies, as the French
Police became the latest governmental agency to dump IE in
favor of the Open Source browser. Mozilla's Firefox and its e-
mail client Thunderbird have been making substantial inroads
into Europe and the French Gendarmes' decision to switch over
is another shot in the arm for what is a very popular browser
at the moment. This move is a snub at Redmond especially
since the Internet Explorer 7 with its improved security is
slated for release by the end of this year. General Christian
Brachet, IT director of the Gendarmes elaborated on the move
to Firefox saying it was the latter's "reliability, security
and inter-operability with other state services, that
prompted the decision. With this the force's 70,000 odd
desktops will move to Firefox, "With Firefox as our default
browser we are not imposing a specific browser on the
citizen: he'll be able to use any one as long as it respects
the WC3 standard, General Brachet said. This standard means
that Firefox can work easily on Mac, Microsoft or Linux
machines.

OUR LOCAL HERITAGE
http://www.alle-kiskitoday.com/articles/archives/8
Do You Live In Resolution? Robert McCrea bought 300 acres
near the Allegheny River in the late 1700s. Following the
popular custom of the day of naming the land you bought,
McCrea named the land "Resolution". It stretched from Valley
Camp to Logan's Ferry. The property was sold to William Jack,
and today we call the land "Arnold." Read more interesting
history at Our Local Heritage at above site. Click on
