Highlands Receives Grant to Bring In Renowned Metalsmith

The Highlands High School Gifted and Art departments received
a grant through PA Council for the Arts and Gateway to the
Arts to bring in nationally known Metalsmith Jan Loney.

Gillen Geary of Vandergrift grew up with a sense of dedication
to the church, family and community in life. Being part of a
family of six children also fostered a great love for
children, Gillen said. That love led her to study for a
teaching career. Gillens mother, Dorothy, set the example of
dedication through her life. Gillen was one of six children
and grew up with her mother being very active in the
community.

LEECHBURG DAM: A dam at Leechburg was built in the 1820s and
1830s on the Kiski River to make it deep enough from Leechburg
to Apollo for the Canal boats. The Leechburg dam was 574 feet
