The Kier Fire Brick Company, which is located in Salina, is an
early brickworks and was once important and a productive
industry. It is now considered a significant industrial
                          archeological site.

     North Vandergrift
Like Vandergrift’s other satellite towns, North Vandergrift and
its people made a significant contribution to the early history
and growth of the town. The fortitude of the settlers there is
exemplified by the fact that after disastrous floods, the town
would rebuild and retain its special character. The town was
never incorporated as a borough and retains the status of
“village” in Armstrong County. No mention of Vandergrift’s
annexing the town was found in research. Nonetheless, most have
always considered North Vandergrift to be part of Vandergrift in
     spirit if not legally.

     VEHICLE ACCIDENT
A car drove off the road and into a house located directly
across the road from Uncle Charley’s Sausage, North
Vandergrift. The driver was reported to be trapped in the
vehicle and rescue workers responded immediately. Once the
unidentified driver was removed from the vehicle, she was
rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The Life Flight
helicopter was called in but unable to fly due to poor weather
conditions. The porch roof was then braced and a flat bed
truck was used to try and pull the car out. Firefighters stood
by in case of emergency. No one in the home was hurt. For more
